Kaduna Gifts Phones, Cash as Kano Promises to Sponsor Education of Released Protesters

Kaduna State has gifted the sum of ₦100,000 and smartphones to the released #EndBadGovernance protesters who are from the state.

The state governor, Uba Sani, also promised to rehabilitate and empower the 39 protesters to become responsible citizens.

The Secretary to the State Government, Abdulkadir Meyere, who spoke on behalf of Governor Sani disclosed that the governor had directed him to collect the credentials of those who have completed their tertiary education.

“The Governor promised that some of them will be given start-up capitals to commence trading, others will be taught skills, and some will be given employment,” he said

The SSG also noted that the Kaduna State Government will be tracking the activities and conduct of all 39 protesters to ensure they are of good behaviour “before the promised benefits are extended to them.

He said, “The state government has taken the details of the released detainees including contact addresses, telephone numbers, and names of their next of kin, for easy tracking and monitoring”.

According to him, the released protesters were all medically examined and given psycho-social counselling on the need to change for the better to be useful to themselves and society at large.

“Both Islamic and Christian religious leaders preached to them to embrace the teachings of their faiths and to avoid bad company, so as to benefit from God’s blessings here and in the hereafter,” he said.

Similarly, in Kano State, Governor, Abba Yusuf, had also promised to rehabilitate released minors and support their education.

During a visit to Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital in Kano where a team of medical professionals was assigned to assess and evaluate the health of the 76 released minors, Gov. Yusuf his administration would do everything possible to reunite the children with their parents and provide them with essential support to engage in small-scale businesses.

He emphasised the importance of education, ensuring that the children return to school to contribute to the state’s development.

Yusuf promised that the state government would take steps toward reintegrating the minors, who were arrested in connection with the #EndBadGovernance protest.

“I will ensure that these children get a second chance at a normal life by enrolling them in local schools and providing opportunities for their rehabilitation and personal growth.

“This compassionate gesture acknowledges that their actions, although regrettable, shouldn’t define their future,” he said.
