Kaduna LG Chairmen Urge INEC to Deploy More Voter Registration Machines

Kaduna State local government chairmen have urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide additional voter registration machines to ease the ongoing exercise across the state.

The call was made at a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Commissioner for Information, Ahmad Abdullahi Maiyaki, and the Commissioner for Youth Development, Gloria Ibrahim. The engagement brought together chairmen from the 23 local councils as well as heads of relevant agencies.

The chairmen noted that the limited number of registration machines in several councils has slowed the process and discouraged potential voters, especially in rural areas. They appealed for urgent deployment of more machines to ensure wider access.

Mr Maiyaki described voter registration as the bedrock of credible elections and called for collective efforts to expand participation. Ms Ibrahim, on her part, stressed the need to prioritise youth inclusion, saying young people must be given every opportunity to register and vote.

The meeting ended with a resolution reaffirming the councils’ commitment to intensify sensitisation campaigns, while INEC was urged to address the logistical shortfalls.
