A Kano based businessman has been duped about N60,000 with a fake transaction receipt by two people that posed as buyers in his shop.
Abubakar Ramadan, who sells clothing materials in Kwari market in Kano said two men appeared in his shop on a Saturday who claimed to buy materials.
However, after selecting goods worth N59,000, they presented a paid transaction receipt of Zenith bank, claiming that payment had been made to the seller’s bank account.
“Despite not receiving an alert of the payment to my GTbank account, I allowed them to leave with the goods, thinking it was due to a delay in the network,” Ramadan told WikkiTimes.
“It was after some hours when the money did not drop in my account that I became suspicious,” he added.
He further narrated that efforts to reach the buyers on their provided phone numbers proved abortive as they refused to respond to his calls.
Reaching the Bank
Ramadan had to reach his bank to ascertain the authenticity of the transaction. After confirming from GTBank that no such payment was made into his account, Ramadan then contacted Zenith Bank on X platform to verify the authenticity of the transaction receipt.
However, the customer care failed to offer immediate assistance, instead he was advised to reach out to the sender to contact the bank.
Furious Ramadan faulted Zenith Bank for failing to verify whether the receipt was fake or not, saying he was disappointed in the bank’s services.
Wikkitimes reached out to Zenith Bank through their publicly available email address. The Bank, in response to the emai, maintained that the receipt was genuine and advised the complainant to reach to his bank.
However, Ramadan’s GTbank has earlier confirmed that no such transaction had occurred on the recipient’s account history.
The businessman told WikkiTimes that the matter has been referred to the Police for further investigation.
