A Shariah High Court in Kano State has sentenced Sheikh Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara to death by hanging, after he was found guilty of making indecent comments against Prophet Muhammad.
The verdict was read Thursday after Justice Ibrahim Sarki Yola pronounced, Abduljabbar guilty of the crime.
Among the accusations against him, it is alleged that his controversial preaching could cause chaos in Kano state.
After he was found guilty of the crimes, Justice Yola adjourned the court session for some minutes to allow him write the court sentence.
Following the recess, the court session resumed and the sentence was read.
Prior to the recess, Sheikh Abduljabar was allowed to make his last speech where he said the lawyer defending him does not know him and he is not pleading guilty, because according to him, he has not committed any crime, therefore, he should be sentenced as soon as possible.
On July 16, 2021, the Kano state government arraigned the cleric in court on charges of blasphemy against religion and inciting the public, a charge he has repeatedly denied.
