A daughter of the late Emir of Kano, Alh. Ado Bayero, Zainab Ado Bayero has described the current Kano royal struggle to succeed her father as unfortunate.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf subsequently sacked all the emirs and reinstated Malam Muhammadu Sansusi II.

Meanwhile deposed Kano Emir Aminu Ado Bayero contested the decision citing a court order that restrained Kano State Government from reinstating the former Central Bank Governor as Kano emir.

Zainab Bayero, whose mother hails from Edo State, said traditional institutions should not be used as pawns in the political games.

The Bayero’s sister who chose to dress in fashion of her mother’s identity and culture said she remains part and parcel of Dabo lineage.

She appealed to the key actors in the Kano royal struggle to handle it with caution.

“The Emirate has existed for a thousand years. There have been/will always be battle for supremacy in the quest for power, particularly in royal families. But traditional institutions should be respected and not used as a pawn in the political games, ” she told the Guardian in an interview.

Zainab also noted that she will soon release a documentary film on the life and times of late Ado Bayero who ruled Kano for 51 years. He died in 2014.

She however decried that her brothers, the deposed emirs of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero and of Bichi Alh. Nasiru Ado Bayero declined to
support her when she reached out for support.
