Kano Gov. Reappoints Emir of Gaya, Appoints New Emirs for Rano, Karaye

Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has reappointed the deposed emir of Gaya Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya as new emir of reduced Gaya Emirate.

Gov. Yusuf also appointed new emirs for Rano and Karaye Emirates.

He also elevated the district head of Bunkure Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umar, as Emir of Rano.

According to the statement, the new emirates are to serve as second with Kano as first-class emirate.

Recall that Gov. Yusuf has on Monday assented to a bill for creating new second class emirates for Gaya, Rano and Karaye with much reduced local government areas.

“You may recall that the Governor had yesterday the 16th of July, 2024 signed into law three second class emirates in the state with Rano covering only Rano, Kibiya and Bunkure Local Government areas. Gaya covering only Gaya, Ajingi and Albasu Local Government areas. Karaye covers only Karaye and Rogo Local Government areas, ” the statement said.

WikkiTimes reports that Kano State House of Assembly had repealed a 2023 law that created the former emirates of Gaya, Karaye, Rano and Bichi.

The repealing which led to reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi 11 as 16th emir of Kano has led to litigation between Emir Bayero and Sanusi 11 alongside Kano State Government.

Governor Abba K. Yusuf enjoined the monarchs to be custodians of culture, peace and unity of the people in thier respective emirates.
