Kano Gov Stops Salaries of 10,800 Workers Employed by Predecessor

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has directed that the salaries of 10,800 workers recruited at the last minute of  Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration be stopped.

The Accountant General of the state, Abdulkadir Abdussalam, in a statement on Monday, said the governor asked him to stop the salaries.

Prior to his inauguration, Governor Yusuf alleged that Ganduje was hastily recruiting civil servants into the state and LGAs’ civil service to create a burden for him.

He accused Ganduje of planning to put him in a difficult situation by illegally employing over 10,000 workers when he was about to vacate office.

According to Abdussalam, the governor had ordered his office to erase the workers from the state’s payroll.

He further noted that his office would look into whether their engagement was legitimate and would take steps to get rid of anyone who had been fraudulently recruited.

Abdulsalam said that pay for all local government employees who were transformed into state employees by the previous administration will be paid based on local government levels.
