Kano: Police Arrest Lawmaker, 161 Others Over Electoral Offences

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini-Gumel, said the operatives of the force have arrested a member of State House of Assembly and 161 others for different electoral offences during the governorship and state assembly elections.

Gumel stated this when he addressed newsmen on Sunday at the command’s headquarters in Bompai, Kano. He explained that the arrested lawmaker is a member representing Gezawa Constituency in the state assembly, Isyaku Ali-Danja.

The commissioner maintained that the suspects were arrested for engaging in electoral offences like vote-buying and destruction of election materials among others.

“The suspects include a member representing Gezawa Constituency, Isyaku Ali-Danja, who allegedly led thugs and attempted to attack the Gezawa Local Government Area INEC Collation Centre and the Police Divisional Office in Gezawa,” he said.

He noted that the suspects would be arraigned in courts as soon as investigation was completed.
