The Kano State Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has arrested three notorious suspects who specialise in producing fake waybills in the state.
The suspects, according to a press statement by Nabilusi Abubakar Kofar Na’isa, the agency’s spokesman, were on the agency’s watchlist for a long time after a series of complaints by motorists about their activities.
Kofar Na’isa said having discovered their tactics, the agency changed its waybills and added extra security to make them difficult to forge.
The statement added that the agency has arrested the trio of Abdulhadi Iliyasu, Shamsu Rabi’u and Samual Ajaye, who all admit to having forged the agency’s waybills and issued them to commercial drivers.
“The suspects confessed to having used one original waybill of the agency and took it to one Samuel Ajaye of Aitken Sabon Gari to reproduce it for them.
“After he was arrested, Samuel Ajaye confirmed to us that they paid him to produce the waybills for them and have paid one hundred and thirty thousand naira in advance payment,” read some parts of the statement.
Kofar Na’isa said the agency would, after conducting its internal investigations, hand over the suspects to the police for prosecution.
