Nura Yusuf Ahmad, the Khadi of a Kano State Sharia Court on Tuesday jailed a 35-year-old barber, Basiru Umaru, “for attempting to defile a seven-year-old boy.”
Umaru, a resident of Sauna Kawaji quarters in Kano, was sentenced to 12 months in jail with no fine option.
According to Khadi, the defendant was convicted on a count charge bordering on an attempt to commit an unnatural offence.

Aliyu Abideen, the prosecutor told the court that one Maryam Abubakar of Sauna Haye quarters in Kano had on June 13 reported the matter at Bompai Police Division, Kano.
He said the defendant lured the boy on the same date while he was on his way home to an uncompleted building, situated at Sauna Kawaji quarters.

Abdeen read before the court: “In the process, the defendant removed the victim’s trousers and attempted to defile him. The victim shouted for help and was rescued by some good samaritans.”
According to the court, the offence contravened the provisions of Section 119 of Kano State Sharia law.
However, Umaru pleaded guilty to the charge pressed against him.
