The allocation to the LGAs stood at a total of ₦40.63 billion for 36 LGAs out of the 44 councils in the state.   While 36 LGAs received the sum of ₦18.33 billion as their January allocations, they got ₦22.31 billion for February.

The figures is a summation of month-on-month revenue for both the state and LGAs accrued from the federation account for Nigeria’s most populous state.

According to the Data, Nasarawa LGA has the highest allocation of ₦1.68 billion, followed by Gwale LGA ₦1.26 billion and Kano Municipal ₦1.24 billion.

Context and Concerns

The combined ₦79.98 billion disbursement comes as Kano struggles with acute water scarcity in the city, nearly collapsed public basic education, a weak healthcare system, rising poverty rates, and ongoing debates over fiscal autonomy for LGAs.

Transparency advocates have repeatedly called for public audits of LGA spending, citing allegations of mismanagement and diversion of funds in previous years.
