The police in Katsina state have foiled bandits’ attacks in Jibian Maje, Nasarawa and Lankwasau villages of Jibia LGA and Yaba village of Malumfashi LGA of the state.
The bandits armed with Ak47 rifles and other dangerous weapons stormed the villages shooting sporadically in an attempt to kidnap residents who scamped for safety.
In a statement issued in Katsina, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the command’s spokesman said the attempted kidnap operations were halted by police operatives who have engaged bandits in a fierce gun duel.
According to the spokesman, a distress call was received by the Jibia Divisional Headquarters from locals and teams of operatives were swiftly dispatched to the communities who rescued the victims.
“At about 0005 hours, a distress call was received at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters that armed bandits in their numbers, armed with dangerous weapons such as the Ak 47 rifle, shooting sporadically, concurrently attacked Jibian Maje, Nasarawa, and Lankwasau villages of Jibia LGA”.
“Upon receipt of the report, the DPO Jibia mobilized teams of operatives and responded to the scene where the teams gallantly engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel. The teams successfully foiled all three attacks and rescued three (3) kidnapped victims”, said Aliyu in the statement.
He added that another attempt by the bandits to kidnap locals in Yaba village of Malumfashi LGA was foiled by the police, leading to the rescue of twenty persons and five rustled cows who were abandoned by the hoodlums in the outskirt of the village.
“On August 20th, 2024, at about 1958 hrs, a distress call was received at the Malumfashi Divisional Headquarters that armed bandits in their numbers, wielding dangerous weapons, attacked Yaba village, Malumfashi LGA, kidnapped twenty (20) persons, and rustled five (5) cows.
“Upon receipt of the report, promptly, DPO Malumfashi marshaled a team of operatives and responded to the scene, where they intercepted the hoodlums at the outskirts of the village while trying to escape with their victims”, he added.
Aliyu said operatives of the command have raided a bandits’ hideout in Dutsinma and Safana LGAs rescuing seven victims abducted from Farar Kasa and Shanga villages in Dutsinma LGA.
