Katsina United’s Under-15 Team Retain NPFL/LaLiga Title

Katsina United Football Club’s under-15 team have retained the NPFL/LaLiga trophy they won in 2019, after winning 4-2 on penalty kicks against Warri Wolves.

In the tournament’s final match at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on Sunday, Katsina United won after a 1-1 score line in regulation time.

Warri Wolves opened scoring through Asomusho Kelly in the 12th minute, while Umar Abubakar equalised for Katsina United in the 34th minute.

In the tournament’s third-place match, MFM FC of Lagos played out a goalless draw with Akwa United of Uyo before a 4-3 penalty shootout win.

Uwakwe Sampson of Warri Wolves won the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award, while Covenant Effiong of Akwa United won the best goalkeeper award.

Speaking on the tournament, former Super Eagles coach and Technical Director of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Augustine Eguaveon, said it was entertaining and commending.

“From the start of the tournament, members of the technical crews of the national teams were all around.

“But I joined the tournament at the semi-finals stage and  i think the semi-finals and the final match were exciting and worthy of applause.

“These (under-15 players) are the future of (our) tomorrow. Coming here is not for fun. So, I think the future of Nigerian football comes from this age-grade football competition,” he said.(NAN)
