Katsina Govt Sacks District Head over Marriage Contract for HIV Couple

The Katsina State Government has sacked the District head of Kuraye, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi-Ahmadu after he contracted a marriage that one of the parties believed to be HIV positive.

A statement by Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu-Yar’adua, the Director of Press Affairs, said the action followed a recommendation by the Katsina Emirate Council.

Aliyu Yar’adua said the state government received the petition against the monarch and it was also investigated by the Katsina State Emirate council.

“Abdullahi-Ahmadu was found to have presided over a marriage contract without required medical certificates as provided by law.

The statement added that one of the parties the district head presided over their marriage is HIV positive. “One of the parties is HIV positive; the district head presided over the marriage without due checks.”

The Katsina State government made it compulsory for the HIV status of the two couples to be known and certified by medical personnel before the marriage contract could be established.
