Kingmakers Call for Application as Ruling Houses Jostle for Ningi Emirship

Kingmakers in Ningi emirate who are mandated to recommend the next emir of Ningi have called on the three ruling houses who are eligible to submit their applications latest on August 29, 2024.

WikkiTimes reports that the late Emir of Ningi, Alhaji (Dr.) Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya, has passed on recently after a prolonged illness at the of 88.

The meeting, which included the Chief Imam of Ningi and the 4 district heads, marked the formal instruction from the Bauchi State Government for the emirate council and the kingmakers to begin the selection process in earnest.

The emir, who had ruled for 47 years since ascending the throne in 1978, will be succeeded according to tradition, which mandates that the new emir must come from one of the three ruling houses of the emirate.

In line with this tradition, the kingmakers have sent letters to the three eligible ruling houses Gidan Mallam Hamza, Gidan Abubakar Danmaje, and Gidan Usman Danyaya, inviting applications from interested members of the royal family.

The deadline for submitting applications is Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 6pm.

After receiving the applications, the kingmakers will screen the candidates and submit the names of three nominees to Governor Bala Mohammed, who will then appoint the new emir from this shortlist.

Wikkitimes reports that Governor Bala Muhammad had earlier assured the people of the Emirate that his administration would honour the wish of the late emir in selecting a successor.
