The Kwara State Government has again restated its commitment to the training and re-training of its workers to further reinvigorate the civil service.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Yisa Gideon, stated this at the opening ceremony of a two-day refresher training workshop organised by the Veterinary Department of the Ministry in Ilorin on Thursday.
Gideon said that the present administration under the leadership of Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was not oblivious of the importance of in-service training for its workforce especially the mainstream Civil Servants.
“We are aware that some staff do have the rare privilege to attend training programmes, workshops and seminars within and outside the State.
“The ministry is equally aware that when such staff returns, the knowledge acquired is not well spread to others which necessitated the need to organise this kind of training”, the commissioner stated.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Hajia Maryam Mohammed had commended the efforts of the organisers of the workshop and assured them of more support from the government in subsequent programmes.
In his remark, the Director of Veterinary Services in the ministry, Dr Abdullateef Olugbon, explained that the training became necessary due to the challenges of emerging animal diseases and its implications on the socio-economic lives of the people.
Olugbon said the training was aimed at cascading the national trainings earlier held for some selected staff with a view to facing the current challenges of disease outbreak, investigation, rapid response and disease reporting.(NAN)
