Kwara Govt Warns Indigenes Against Gender-Based Violence

The Kwara state government has called on the people of the state to refrain from all forms of sexual and gender-based violence, according to Mrs Abosede Aremu, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development.

She gave the warning on Saturday, at a sensitisation visit to Agbadamu community, Ilorin West Local Government Area.

Aremu advised the people to be law abiding, cautioning that child abuse, rape, stalking, child labour, trafficking, wife battering, gender inequality and sexual harassment should be totally eradicated in the interest of humanity.

The Permanent Secretary, Hajia Afusat Ibrahim, said that government had zero tolerance for all forms of sexual and gender-based violence.

Ibrahim also reiterated that citizens should avoid forceful and early marriages, harmful traditional practices and genital mutilation.

The Mogaji of Agbadamu, Alhaji Jimoh Mogaji, commended the state government for its efforts at sensitising the people against gender violence, to ensure better society.

The commissioner was accompanied to the event by the Director of Women Affairs, Mrs Medinat Idris, Director of Social, Mr Kayode James and Assistant Director Social, Mrs Bolanle Ogungbemi. (NAN)
