Abdullahi Abubakar, a lawyer based in Rimim Zayam, Toro local government area, of Bauchi State, has been arrested by security operatives for allegedly kidnapping and killing a mobile police officer in the state.
Mr. Abdullahi, alongside his two accomplices, was found responsible for the killing of the police officer and other kidnapping incidents along Kuba village in Bokkos LGA of Plateau state.
A statement from the Twitter handle of Nigerian Army Headquarters indicated that troops of Operation Safe Heaven arrested Mr. Abdullahi based in Plateau state.
According to the statement, the lawyer suspect admitted to having partaken in the killing of the mobile police officer and being actively involved in various kidnapping incidents in connection with his criminal gangs.
“On November 4, 2023, troops arrested Mr Abdullahi Abubakar Lawyer at Rimin Zayam village in Toro LGA of Bauchi State in connection to the killing of own Mobile Police personnel on November 2, 2023, at Kuba village in Bokkos LGA.
“The suspect equally admitted to being involved in kidnapping activities and other sundry crimes with other gang members,” it said.
The statement further added that based on the suspect’s confessional statement, the troops were able to arrest his two accomplices, namely Yakubu Saidu and Nasiru Mohammed, and recovered over two hundred rounds of ammunition, mobile phones, and one motorcycle.
The statement further added that from October 29 to November 5 this year, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) on Operation HAKORIN DAMISA IV have neutralized suspected bandits and arrested 19 suspects in connection with kidnapping, criminal attacks, cattle rustling, armed robbery, farm destruction, theft as well as recovery of arms and ammunition and illicit drugs.
It said the troops also arrested notorious kidnapping kingpins Bawa Ahmed, Suleiman Audu, and a most wanted armed robber, Sarajo Adam, all operating along Barikin Ladi, Riyom, and Zangon Kataf of Plateau and Kaduna States, respectively.
“Similarly, on 30 October 2023, troops of Sector 7 OPSH arrested a suspected kidnapper, Bawa Ahmad, at Kamuru village in Zango Kataf LGA of Kaduna State and recovered one locally fabricated rifle with cartridges in his possession.
“In the same vein, on 3 November 2023, troops arrested Mr Suleimanu Audu at Gidan Auta village in connection with kidnapping and raping of 2 victims on 24 September 2023,” it added.
