Babatunde editing – Chinese shares close lower Tuesday

Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the industrial hemp and agricultural planting sectors leading the gain.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.12 per cent to close at 3,021.2 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.37 per cent lower at 9,964.93 points.

The combined trading volume of stocks in the two indexes shrank to 696.3 billion yuan ($98.3 billion) from 716 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 706 to 685 on the Shanghai bourse and gainers outnumbered losers by 1,051 to 982 in Shenzhen.
Companies in industrial hemp sectors mostly gained, with the share price of Sanlux Company Ltd. jumping by the daily limit of 10 per cent to close at 6.34 yuan per share.

Meanwhile, companies related to electronic manufacturing and semiconductor led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China’s NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.46 per cent to close at 1,725.31 points.
