Lawyers Caution Bauchi Govt to Follow Rule of Law in Probing former AG, Abubakar

The Lawyers for the Cause of Bauchi (LAWBA) has cautioned Bauchi State Government to uphold the rule of law in its ongoing fight against corruption, specifically referencing the arrest and investigation of the former Accountant-General, Sa’idu Abubakar.

Speaking at a press conference in Bauchi, Bala Hussaini, Esq., the Public Relations Officer of LAWBA, expressed concerns about the legality of the government’s actions, citing a recent judgment by the Federal High Court, Bauchi, which invalidated the law creating the State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.

Hussaini noted that while the fight against corruption is crucial, it must be conducted within the confines of the law.

He criticized the selective targeting of individuals in the investigation, stressing that the rule of law does not support politically motivated persecution.

LAWBA called on the state government to refer the case to federal anti-corruption agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), as the people have greater trust in these institutions.

He further emphasized that government officials must be transparent and held accountable, calling for a comprehensive investigation to identify all those involved in financial misconduct.
