League of Women Voters drum for more women inclusion in politics

League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV), Bauchi State Chapter, has conducted a Town Hall meeting on the implementation of Women’s Voice and Leadership Project Nigeria, with particular emphasis on women inclusion in politics.

Speaking at the occasion, the chairperson of the Association, Hajiya Fatima Zakari said the meeting sponsored by Global Affairs Canada and ActionAid was aimed at ensuring that women are actively participating in governance and decision making.

Fatima Zakari expressed satisfaction that, League of Women Voters of Nigeria is gradually gaining ground in Bauchi as more women have now understand the need for them to key into decision making.

The chairperson used the medium to thank all the participants, for their support and hoped that the relationship will continue towards building a stronger coalition for the well-being of women.

In her key note address, the Chairperson, State chapter of the National Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Mrs Bulak Afsa while enumerating some of roles of women in politics and leadership, enjoined government at all levels to acknowledge their contribution in the society by giving them opportunity to participate in governance.

Represented by the Secretary in the Council, Hajiya Aisha Idris Bamai, Bulak Afsa stressed the need for all hands to be on deck towards the protection of the rights of women and children.

Participants at the town hall meeting applauded NILOWV Bauchi state chapter for coming up with initiative expressing confidence that it will go a long way in increasing females’ representation before the conduct of the next election.

While describing such initiative as a welcome development, the participants enjoined women give their votes to their female counterpart so as to encourage them to contest during 2023 elections.

The participants at the town hall meeting, were drawn from the Traditional Institution, Civil Society Organisations, Security Agencies, Organized Private Sector notably the Hamlet Head of Shar-Shar, Secretary NAWOJ Aisha I. Bamai, Hajiya Hajara Salami Chairperson Action Women, Hajiya Lami Geidam representing FOMWAN, Abdullahi Shitu representing Youth Hub Africa and Representative of NSCDC Gloria Paul Oluchi.
