Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has taken the path of his friend-turned-enemy Nasir El rufai of demolishing shops in the state capital.
The Kaduna State Urban Development Board, (KASUPDA) has already ordered for immediate demolition of what it described as all illegal shops, containers and kiosks in Kaduna Central Market popularly known as Sheikh Abubakar Gumi Marker.
Abdurrahman Yahya, the Director General of the agency who gave the order in a statement he shared via the agency’s X handle said the order became imperative considering the danger posed by the presence of such unapproved stalls and containers.
Yahya said the agency has observed with dismay, the unauthorized erection of shops which have become a threat to the safety of lives and properties of traders in the market.
“The Authority has observed with dismay the unauthorized placement of containers, kiosks and illegal shops within Kaduna Central Market (Sheik Abubakar Gumi Market) and its surrounding areas without prior approval”.
“For the safety of lives and properties in the market and its environs, KASUPDA wishes to inform all owners of such unauthorized structures who have already been served removal notices, to comply and remove them immediately, as per the directives issued”, he said.
The agency warned that no development or installation of structures in designated urban areas and centres across the state will be permitted without the proper approval of the Authority.
It however, said the process of obtaining planning permission and approval for structures has been simplified and can completed within one to two weeks.
“Failure to comply with the directive will result in appropriate enforcement actions being taken by KASUPDA”, it said.
