Locals in Taraba Village Raise Alarm Over Military Invasion

Residents of Peva, a village in the Takum local council, Taraba State have expressed their concerns following an alleged military invasion earlier Tuesday.

The soldiers, according to a report by a local outlet, were searching for the kidnapped Takum Local Government Caretaker Chairman, Boyi Manja, who was kidnapped around the area on Sunday. Residents said the soldiers invaded their community by 9 am on Tuesday.

“My house was broken into by soldiers this morning. I don’t know why they are doing what they are doing. If they have credible information regarding the whereabouts of the kidnapped chairman, they should work on their intelligence and stop harassing people.

“Shop owners were forced to close as they shoot sporadically in the air. Tension is building in the area and this is unnecessary,” one of the residents said.

But spokesman for the Nigerian Army in Taraba State, Lieutenant Oni dismissed the allegation saying, nothing of such happened in the area.
