Man Jailed for Generator Theft in Kaduna

A Kaduna-based man, Bala Hassan, 25, has been sentenced to 10 months imprisonment for stealing a generator worth N450,000.

Hassan was jailed by a chief magistrates court in Kaduna. The convict and another person, who is now at large, allegedly plotted to steal Mohammed Danladi’s appliance in Badarawa, Kaduna, according to Chidi Leo, the prosecution counsel.

During the investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime, according to Leo, who also said attempts to locate the stolen item were unsuccessful.

According to the prosecution counsel, the offence breached sections 302 and 217 of the 2017 criminal code of Kaduna State.

When arraigned, the defendant entered a guilty plea and asked the judge to be forgiving.

Ibrahim Emmanuel, the magistrate who jailed Hassan explained that his conviction and punishment were based on his admission of guilt for the crime.

“The court having found the convict guilty of the offence, in line with his plea for mercy, a first-time offender, who did not waste the time and resources of the court, Bala Hassan is hereby sentenced to 10 months imprisonment with an option to pay a N20,000 fine,” the magistrate said.
