Manchester United’s journey in the 2019/20 Premier League Season so far By Nazir Jarmajo

Manchester United kicked off the Premier League season in style against Chelsea by beating the Blues 4-0 at Old Trafford. After the game, the theater thought it was time to dream again due to the performance of the players in the game. Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have been seen by a lot as the new formed partnership in the attacking department in comparison to the Yorke and Cole partnership back in the glory years when the two flourished.

Rashford bagged a brace and Martial scored once in the opener against the Blues. A Monday night fixture against a stubborn wolves on match day-2 looked a better one for United as they secured a point in the game although Paul Pogba missed a penalty.

Apart from the penalty missed, it was a different United from the side that lost back to back games last season at the Molineux Stadium. United lost for the first time this season at home to Crystal Palace on match day-4 of the league season. Daniel James showcased his class later on but it wasn’t enough as United lost to Palace for the first time at Old Trafford since 1979. Marcus Rashford also missed a penalty in the game.

A date with Southampton at the Saint Merry’s on Saturday 31st of August gave Daniel James a chance yet again to show what he can do as he stuck his third goal in 4 league appearances and that made him equal on Premier League with Alexis Sanchez who has joined Inter on a season long loan.

The lack of squad depth began to show at United in recent weeks. Martial is injured at the moment which leaves Ole with only Rashford as his goal scoring option in the team.

In midfield, Paul Pogba’s form is nowhere found. Mc Tominay is trying his best but his lack of experience is worrying the team. Matic has been dropped due to his form in pre-season and Jesse Lingard hasn’t scored nor assisted in 2019 for United. The only positive sight United has got in the team right now is the two new signings in Aaron Wan Bissaka and Daniel James while Maguire is still struggling for proper communications with Victor Lindelof. For now United is a work in progress, with James dazzling and too many dozing passengers.
