Manu-Soro joins Bauchi Exco By Mukhtar Jarmajo

In accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), the Bauchi state governor, Sen. Bala Mohammed last week Friday swore-in twenty new commissioners in a ceremony held at the Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall in Bauchi. And by that ceremony, the highest decision making body, the Executive Council, was constituted in Bauchi state.

The Executive Council is primarily responsible for implementing government policies and programs in line with existing laws. It has Commissioners as Executive Members and a Secretary to Government as a Non-Executive Member. Its engine room is the Civil Service, which is manned by the Head of the Civil Service. The Civil Service gives the Executive arm of government technical advice and support as to the best way to implement its policies and programs.

Therefore, it is indubitable that in order to deliver democratic dividends to the people, the Executive Council must constitute capable hands and the Civil Service must be effective and efficient. Hence the reason why the Bauchi state governor nominated amongst others Mallam Nura Manu-Soro, a technocrat, politician and philanthropist, to serve in his cabinet.

Manu-Soro, who was at a time the Budget Consultant to the National Assembly, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International and Comparative Politics, MSc Business Administration and MSc Leadership Studies. He is currently a PhD candidate on Political Economy. And as a businessman, Mallam Nura Manu-Soro has crossed the success line. He is the Chairman, Soroman Nigeria Limited.

With the antecedents of Manu-Soro highlighted above, it did not give any surprises that he was assigned to man the critical Ministry of Finance. As it stands today, the Bauchi state governor has confidence in him so much so that he sees him as capable of handling the ministry which manages government financial assets, proposes economic and financial policies, proposes bills that are related to managing government staff salaries, benefits and pensions and exercises all other rights and powers as conferred on it by the relevant laws.
