Mashema Not In NASS To Represent Political Godfathers-Constituents

Constituents loyal to the member of the house of representatives representing Jama’are and Itas Gadau local governments federal constituency of Bauchi state Honourable Bashir Uba Mashema have reacted to the allegation by the party stakeholders that the lawmaker has abandoned them.

The constituents who described themselves as ‘Team of beneficiaries of Bashir Uba Mashema Empowerment Programme’ with the support of 21 APC Stakeholders of Jama’are local government said the lawmaker is at the national assembly to represent his constituents, not political godfathers.

They made the reaction in a press statement signed by their counsel Barrister Adamu Ali and issued to journalist Tuesday claimed that there are 27 stakeholders in the local government saying however that only six of them made the earlier accusation of abandonment by the lawmaker.

“The committee of stakeholders of the All Progressive Congress in Jama’are local government has a total number of 27 members and 6 Members out of 27 can never form a quorum no matter how powerful the 6 members may claim to be.

“But to our greatest dismay, we woke up in the early hours of Sunday the 7th Day of November 2021 with a story making headlines in some National Dailies that some claimed-stakeholders [six in number] have issued out a press release in which they berated Hon. Bashir Uba Mashema.

“We know where their problem is, they have been in the political spheres of Jama’are local government for a long period of time where they have been playing the role of political godfathers in which every elected member will be dancing to their own tune leaving the constituents with no dividends of democracy”, the statement reads in parts.

According to them, Mashema has now changed the narratives and ‘become answerable to the constituents not to the political godfathers’ alleging that the godfathers are only revolting now.

“So, six out of 27 cannot unilaterally elevate themselves to a status of deciding for other 21 members”, he said.
