The federal government has announced that it will provide Cesarean sections (CS) free of charge to pregnant women in need as part of its efforts to address maternal mortality rate.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Pate, disclosed this at the three-day Nigeria Health Sector-Wide Joint Annual Review in Abuja.
Prof. Pate noted that the initiative is an ambitious commitment to reducing maternal and newborn mortality in the country.
The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in a tweet via its official X handle, stated, “In a powerful move, Coordinating Minister @muhammadpate just announced that Cesarean Sections for all Nigerian women who need them will now be FREE!”
It added that the minister noted that no woman should lose her life simply because she cannot afford a C-section.
