Mayday: Organized Labour wants FG Declare State Of Emergency On Security

The Organised Labour in Bauchi state has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to if necessary, declare a state of emergency in the area of security in the country.

The Bauchi State chapter chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Danjuma Saleh who spoke on behalf of the Organized Labour in the state disclosed that the International day of workers is been celebrated in a low key across the globe due to the second wave of COVID-19.

“The recent aggravation of insecurity in the country calls for urgent action from the government and the citizens”, the Organized Labour said.

According to the NLC chairman, there is no authority when the citizens are not been protected by those in power who have sworn to ensure their protection.

Comrade Danjuma who said that the Northern part of the country has been neglected in the aspect of protection of lives and properties appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to rise up to the current security challenges bedevilling the country.

“His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari must rise up to the challenge and if necessary, declare a state of emergency in the area of security”, the Organized Labour said.

They maintained that the state of emergency when declared is going to bring an end to banditry, kidnapping, insurgency, terrorism and other social vices in the country, adding that no nation can prosper under the atmosphere of insecurity.

Danjuma who spoke on the occasion of the 2021 Mayday celebration at the Command guest house during the weekend in Bauchi, expressed delight over the palliative being distributed to states to cushion the negative effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added that there is an urgent need for the Federal Government to fast track the process with a view to removing all the bottlenecks been imposed on the downtrodden.

Governor Bala Mohammed who was represented by Bauchi state house of assembly speaker, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Suleiman said his administration has since inception ensured timely payment of workers salaries.

While congratulating the Organized Labour for organizing the event, Governor Bala assured them of better days ahead.
