Police in Yobe State have confirmed the arrest of a mobile police officer serving with the state command for allegedly stabbing a civilian during a financial dispute in Damaturu, the state capital.
Inspector Mohammed Bulama, who is attached to the Police Mobile Force (PMF) 41 Division, reportedly engaged in a heated argument with one Abdulmalik Dauda, a resident of Pompamari ward, over an unsettled transaction.
The altercation escalated into a physical confrontation, leading to the stabbing and to the death of the victim.
Dungus Abdulkarim, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Yobe State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that Inspector Bulama sought refuge at the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters, where he was subsequently arrested.
Abdulkarim noted that the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation into the incident, noting that Bulama is currently in custody, pending both internal disciplinary action and legal prosecution.
“The incident occurred on September 29, 2024, at approximately 6:20 PM, when Inspector Mohammed Bulama, 38, engaged in a bitter argument with Abdulmalik Dauda, 39, over an unresolved transaction in the Zango area,” Abdulkarim explained.
“The dispute escalated into a fight, during which Bulama stabbed Dauda in the chest. Bulama also sustained injuries to his head.”
He emphasized that police will not tolerate misconduct among its personnel and is committed to ensuring justice is served.
