The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Ashaka branch in Gombe State that transport cement for Ashaka Cement PLC have decried underpayment by the company or their services.
NARTO argued that despite the hike in the prices of petrol, gas, and maintenance costs, the company has not adjusted their pay to reflect the current economic realities.
In an audio clip obtained by WikkiTimes, NARTO, through its lawyer, Barr. Luka Haruna said that despite repeated appeals, the company has refused to increase their fares, leaving transporters struggling with stagnant freight rates while cement prices continue to soar.
The transporters claimed that the Company’s failure to adjust rates has severely affected their business.
According to them, they are demanding a 50% freight rate increase to cope with the rising costs.
NARTO also called for an end to the company’s alleged intimidation tactics of its members and demanded a fair corporate social responsibility to the host community.
The transporters appealed to Gombe State government to intervene by ensuring fair treatment by the company.
