The Sokoto State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 146 suspects and seized 982.8 kilogrammes of illicit drugs over the past four months.
The state commander of the agency, Mustapha Muhammad Gidado, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists on the command’s activities since he assumed office.
Mr Gidado said 13 of the suspects—including a 72-year-old man—have been convicted, while 18 others are currently standing trial.
He added that the command also rehabilitated 18 drug-dependent individuals and successfully reunited them with their families as part of its drug demand reduction efforts.
According to the NDLEA boss, the achievements recorded were made possible through the support of the Sokoto State Government, effective collaboration with other security agencies, and timely intelligence from members of the public.
Mr Gidado reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to intensifying the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in the state, urging residents to continue supporting law enforcement efforts with credible information.
