The North East Development Commission has said that it will reconstruct a mini bridge in Beti village that links communities in Misau, Darazo of Bauchi state with Basirka in Gwaram LGA of Jigawa state.
WikkiTimes reports earlier that the Bridge had been washed away by flood two years ago, creating difficulties for the communities.
Mohammed Sani Umar, a director in the commission who led a team of engineers in an assessment visit to the bridge site, said work will commence in earnest and will ensure speedy completion.
Umar said the funds for the Beti project had already been approved.
He said the commission has received a formal request from the member representing Misau/Dambam federal constituency on the condition of the bridge which played a vital role in connecting locals in the area who are mostly farmers to nearby markets.
He said the NEDC will ensure that the affected communities are linked to the markets as the road provides passage to the ancient Maladumba fishing annual fishing festival.
According to him, the commission will also repair Ajili and Dunkui Kasuwa mini bridges that were also affected by flooding in the area.
The bridge WikkiTimes gathered links communities from Misau and Darazo local governments of Bauchi State through Basirka to Gwaram local government of Jigawa State.
Alhaji Mohammed Shehu, Village Head of Beti said the bridge is the only link between the people and Misau town and it passed up to Basirka of Gwaram LGA of Jigawa state, as such the people have been cut off from the town.
