NGO advocates for new laws to consolidate whistle blower policy

Center for Law Enforcement Education Foundation has suggested for the review and adoption of new laws for effective fight against corruption in the country.

The Assistant Programme Manager of the Organization, Mr Samuel Ojewale made the suggestion at a one Day workshop for Preventing Corruption through Whistle Blower policy in Bauchi State.

Mr Samuel Ojewale, observed that the fight against corruption will only be consolidated through enabling laws that can yielded positive result.

He identified corruption as responsible for poverty and deprivation, under-development, economic stagnation and insecurity facing the country.

The Assistant Programme Manager who noted that, citizens have a vital role to play in tackling corruption, said whistle blower policy is one of the vital tool for them to ply their part.

He also said whistle blowing policy could be sold to leaders at the State level for possible replication, especially in assisting government in terms of leakages.

“What we want for stakeholders in Bauchi State is to be involved; people should remember that it is their civic responsibility to make their voices against wrong doing counts”.

Speaking on behalf of the organizers of the workshop, the Executive Director, Prison Inmates Development Initiative, Mr. Mbami Iliya Sabka, said the initiative in collaboration with the foundation has organized the workshop to assist in advancing the adoption and implementation of whistle blower policy in Bauchi State.

Mr Iliya Sabka said the implementation of the policy in the State will address all forms of corruption, and engender accountability and transparency in the state Institutions and governance processes.

Some of the participants who spoke at the occasion demanded for an open Government partnership for proper financial management.
