NGO Launches Tree Planting Initiative in Bauchi LG to Combat Climate Change

In a bid to mitigate the effects of climate change, the non-governmental organization Giade Green Club (GGC) has launched a tree-planting exercise in Giade LGA of Bauchi State.

The initiative aims to address both the immediate and long-term impacts of environmental degradation caused by deforestation.

Speaking at the event, the chairman of Giade Green Club, Hon. Adamu Bello Giade, emphasized the urgency of adopting drastic measures to address the devastating consequences of climate change.

Hon. Giade revealed that the area has recently experienced unprecedented windstorms, flooding, erosion, heat, and land degradation, all of which are attributed to deforestation.

“The immediate focus of our organization is to raise public awareness about the dangers and consequences of illegal tree felling, as well as the importance of tree planting. Trees contribute to the regulation of the water cycle by maintaining humidity levels and ensuring consistent rainfall. Deforestation disrupts this balance, leading to irregular weather patterns and water shortages,” he said.

Hon. Giade further explained that the long-term strategy of the organisation involves planting tree seedlings in various locations and major towns within the local government to be benefitted by the future generations.

As part of the first phase of the initiative, GGC plans to plant 10,000 tree seedlings, generously donated by philanthropic individuals.
