According to her, the aim of the programme is to build the capacity of married women to better handle psychological and socio-economic challenges, especially in the context of the worldwide pandemic.

Owasanoye said that all women have the right to stand tall against discrimination, exploitation, violence and intimidation.

“I want women to take a personal decision to invest in self-development, build your capacity, so as to be able to fully participate and get involved in contributing to local, national and global development.

“I want to encourage them to always make a difference wherever they find themselves; to challenge inequality, injustice and all forms of abuse and non-inclusiveness against women and children,” she said.

She said that this year’s day had been announced with the broad theme; ‘Women In Leadership: Achieving An Equal Future In A COVID-19 World”.

The HDI’s executive director, however, called on the government to invest more in providing affordable healthcare system and to support entrepreneurship drive of women while prioritising their economic empowerment. (NAN)
