An NGO, Human Development Initiative (HDI), says it is organising a day out with married women to celebrate this year “International Women’s Day“, scheduled for Monday, March 8.
Mrs Olufunso Owasanoye, the Executive Director HDI, in a statement on Sunday in Lagos, said the outing would be themed: “Understanding the New Normal: Empowering Women To Deal With Health And Socio-Economic Implications”.
Owasanoye said that a day out with wives was a programme for married women between ages 20 and 50.
According to her, the aim of the programme is to build the capacity of married women to better handle psychological and socio-economic challenges, especially in the context of the worldwide pandemic.
Owasanoye said that all women have the right to stand tall against discrimination, exploitation, violence and intimidation.
“I want women to take a personal decision to invest in self-development, build your capacity, so as to be able to fully participate and get involved in contributing to local, national and global development.
“I want to encourage them to always make a difference wherever they find themselves; to challenge inequality, injustice and all forms of abuse and non-inclusiveness against women and children,” she said.
She said that this year’s day had been announced with the broad theme; ‘Women In Leadership: Achieving An Equal Future In A COVID-19 World”.
The HDI’s executive director, however, called on the government to invest more in providing affordable healthcare system and to support entrepreneurship drive of women while prioritising their economic empowerment. (NAN)
