Taimako Community Development Initiative, Taimako CDI has in partnership with Development Exchange Center, DEC enrolled 300 out of school children into school in Nasarawa community of Ganjuwa local government area of Bauchi State.
The children, before their enrollment, were subjected to a rigorous nine months of basic literacy classes.
Mr Bashir Usman, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, while presenting certificates to the beneficiaries said the programme which was in line with TaimakoCDI’s cardinal objectives aimed at empowering out of school children in the community with basic literacy skills and subsequently enrolled them into formal learning institutions.
“We considered this Community because of the number of out-of-school children recorded in the Ganjuwa Local government, that is why we started it as a Pilot program with eight centres at Nasarawa and two others at Yali making ten centres with 30 pupils each,” he said.
Sa’adatu Abubakar, one of the instructors summed up the impact of the programme on the children said, “It’s clear and the difference is obvious. When they were enrolled, they couldn’t read or write even simple alphabets, but now most of them are doing very good.”
“About 85% of the beneficiaries have furthered their education and also performing good which was our paramount goal.”
Yakubu Abdu, Sarkin Dawakin Nasarawa commended the organization for such a charitable gesture, calling on them to sustain the program by engaging another batch of beneficiaries.
Some of the beneficiaries who speak to WikkiTimes said they found the programme to be very impactful and motivating, making them see a more urgent need to continue pursuing a higher level of formal education. They said that their literacy skills were sharpened courtesy of the programme.
“We can now read and write in English with greater skills and speed.”
The Project targeted out-of-school children and adults with shallow education the populace providing them with basic skills of knowledge and empowering them to be economically independent. The Project as well provides healthcare to vulnerable persons, ensures good governance among others.
