NGO partners NUJ, advocates more rehabilitation centres in Kaduna

An NGO, Eye Opener for Youth and Women Foundation on Monday solicited for partnership with the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) to push for the establishment of more rehabilitation centres in Kaduna State.

The President of the NGO,  Mrs Margaret Julius, who paid a courtesy visit to the leadership of NUJ in Kaduna state, said it was important to rehabilitate disadvantaged youth and give them a chance to become responsible citizens.

“Our target is to reach out to the rejected, hopeless and confused women and youth in the society so they could become useful to their family, themselves and the society at large.

“Our foundation meets with pastors, imams and other concerned citizens from the state so that awareness can be created in places of worship as well as other important public places,” she said.

The president added that their passion is to restore the glory of Kaduna state via partnering with NUJ.

“This is why we came to seek for your support, because we believe that whatever report or news story comes from NUJ is authentic as we know they abide by the ethics of their profession.

“We go into the nook and crannies of the state to bring drug addicts who we take to rehabilitation centres for reformation.

“This is why we are calling on the state government to create more rehabilitation centres within the state as the state has only one functional rehabilitation centre.

Responding, the state Chairman of NUJ, Adamu Yusuf, said that the union would work with the organisation in achieving the target of moulding the youth to become better citizens.

He assured that members of the union operate within the rules guiding the profession and has registered all its members including online reporters, to prevent quacks from soiling the reputation of the union.

The chairman assured the NGO of the union’s full support whenever the foundation engages in any activity.

Yusuf urged them to encourage inter marriages as that will be the first step towards peaceful coexistence in the society.

“For the benefit of peace in our society, I assure you that NUJ will always be there with you in your journey.”
