Niger Govt. commences construction of Minna city gate road

Niger State Government has flagged off the reconstruction of the 11 kilometers dual carriage Minna City Gate-Chanchaga road.

Alhaji Balarabe Ibrahim, the state Chairman of Infrastructure Monitoring Committee (IMC), said in Minna on Monday that the project would cost the state government N403 million.

Ibrahim explained that the road which was 5.65 kilometers, was a double dual carriage totaling 11 kilometers, and would be constructed by H and M Company Ltd.

“For years, the road was in bad shape and in deplorable condition.

“Two things informed the decision of the governor to repair the road, the necessity and the desire to reduce the hardship of Niger people.

“As a government that has the interest of the people, we have to think out of the box to source for money to reduce the difficulties to the barest minimum.

“In 2019, we had incidents of where people spend over three hours on this road of 5.65 kilometers to reach Minna, therefore, we are embarking on this project to address difficulties in movement.’’

The chairman said that the road would be constructed within a period of sixteen weeks, adding that the construction company is competent enough to carry out the work even in the rainy season.

Ibrahim, who is also the Chief of Staff to Gov. Abubakar Bello, said the state Ministry of Works and the Committee would monitor the project to ensure that it meets all standards and quality.

On articulated vehicle plying the road, the chairman said that the state government does not have the power to regulate the movement of such heavy-duty vehicles, as it was a Federal road.(NAN)
