The Niger State Government has suspended a Suleja-based controversial Islamic cleric, Muhammad bin Muhammad from public preaching and teaching in an Islamic School in the state.
Bin Muhammad trended recently for condemning almost all prominent Islamic clerics in northern Nigeria across all the sectarian divides as leading their followers to hellfire.
The firespitting cleric also condemned democracy and its leadership recruitment system which he described as unislamic.
He called on Muslims to refrain from it as is against the teaching of Islamic religion and Muslims should refrain from it.
According to him, allowing human beings to vote who rules over their affairs is totally against the teaching of Islam, saying it connotes giving attributes of Almighty Allah to human beings.
In a Hausa interview monitored by WikkiTimes, Muhammad said contrary to some misconception that he is preaching against Western education (Boko Haram ideology), what he preaches is that anything Unislamic brought by the western education, especially democracy, should be avoided.
“I never said western education is forbidden (Haram). What some people perceive is that there is a new ideology that some certain things are against Islam, and someone is condemning them”, he said.
Muhammed, who said he obtained a Master’s degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, contended that western education is akin business venture that has both good and bad sides.
Reiterating his stand that democracy is un-Islamic, the cleric maintained that it is only the Supreme God that decides what is to be done and as such no one has the mandate to rule others.
“What we are advocating is that democracy (election) is un-Islamic because giving someone the mantle of leadership is giving him attributes of God and it is against Islamic teachings”, he affirmed.
He, however, said if there is any religious scholar that has contrary views, he is ready for one-on-one meeting with such clerics to debate over the contentious issues in his religious teachings.
“What we want is to have one-on-one discussion with learned clerics to prove to us what we are advocating is wrong. Because our creed (Aqeeda) are the teachings of the Holy Prophet and that of his companions”, he added.
