Niger State Fire Service Urges Residents To Guard Against Occurrence

The Controller,  Niger  State Fire Service, Alhaji Suleiman Bababida has called on people of the state to be cautious while the harmatan lasts to prevent fire outbreaks.

Bababida, who gave the advice in a statement on Thursday in Minna urged them “not to throw caution to the wind’’.

“The Directorate of Niger State Fire Service wishes to remind the general public that cooking should not be left unattended.

“All electrical appliances should be switched off during power outage and all electrical gadgets should be unplugged when not in use” Bababida said.

According to him, do not leave children alone near open fire or cooker, inflammable items should not be in the kitchen.

“Loosed clothes should be avoided in the kitchen, while long braids and wigs should be covered,” he cautioned.

The controller further warned that phones should not be used in the kitchen, noting that such habits should be considered as a taboo.

“Appropriate and serviceable fire extinguishers should be installed in vehicles, commercial centres, offices and homes. Petrol should not be stored in Jerry cans around buildings or in vehicles,’’ he said.

Bababida advised that in the event of fire, it should be extinguished if it was safe to do so, “go out, remain outside and remember to close the door.”
