Nigerians especially on social media platforms reacted to reports that the fuel price per litre at the government-owned Port Harcourt Refinery sells higher than privately owned Dangote Refinery.
The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has said the price of petrol in the now government operational refinery that resumed work barely 24 hours ago is ₦75 per litre higher than the price of the same from the Dangote Refinery.
Recall that Dangote Refinery recently reduced the price to N970 from N990.
PETROAN noted that while Dangote Refinery sells petrol to marketers at ₦970 per litre, NNPCL’s price stands at ₦1,045, a difference of ₦75 per litre.
Some Nigerians on social media expressed their disappointment over what some described as dashed hope.
Halifa Hafiz said “If the petrol price at Port Harcourt is higher than Dangote’s by N75/litre as rumoured, then something is amiss. Renew your sense before you renew your hope.”
Another netizen, Mustapha Ibrahim said “…it seems government, Dangote and fuel marketers want to show us shege. For our political leaders, they will surely pay for this nonesense in 2027 general elections.”
“Why do NNPCL have to start from high price after all they have crude oil in abundance locally. Executives, senators and other arms of government must prevail on them,” said Muraina Lateef Onijo.
Sani Sallau Dauda contended “How can it be higher than Dangote’s. Couldn’t be these guys want to be reselling Dangote’s products to us? What exactly is happening here?”
