NIPR Drums Support For Community-Based Approach To Recruitment of Security Personnel

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR Bauchi State Chapter has called for the adoption of a community-based strategy for the recruitment of security personnel in Nigeria.

The NIPR said community leaders should be taken along in the recruitment of process of the nation’s security personnel to be certain of the moral background of the candidates seeking employment in both military and paramilitary formations of the country.

The NIPR stated this in a communique issued at the end of its Citizens Summit on Security, Peace and National Integration at the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi.

The Communique called for stronger synergy among security operatives, religious and community leaders towards addressing copious forms of criminalities being perpetrated across the country.

The NIPR called on states and the federal governments to revive ailing industries to engage the teeming unemployed youth in useful ventures.

NIPR also suggested that recruitment of police personnel and other paramilitary agents should be based on communities’ recommendations of applicants as against the present ugly trend of Godfatherism.

The Communique noted with dismay the spate of insecurity including Banditry, kidnapping, tribalism and insurgency in most parts of the country, calling on government and security agencies to live up to their responsibilities.
