Northeast Polytechnics Tasks On Vocational Training

The National Board for Technical Education, NBTE has asked polytechnics in the Northeast to give more primacy to imparting technical and vocational education for the socio-economic growth and development of the region.

Hussaini Muhammad, Northeast Zonal Director stated this during a one-day sensitisation for principal officers of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi.

He said to achieve this goal, polytechnics ought to adopt the Qualification framework so as to strengthen the link between vocational training institutions.

Malam Hussaini said that a paradigm shift in the education system , the industries and Polytechnics are involved in developing the occupational standards and work based verifications and continuous assessment of trainees.

To him, the initiative when fully implemented in all the Polytechnics, socio economic needs of the country will be enhanced due to consistent neglect of competence and undue emphasis on peper Qualifications.

He said the current socio-economic problems on the ground in the Northeast, Polytechnics in the region should see more reasons to adopt the Nigerian skills Qualifications framework is in place, this is fast changing with a wake up call for the Polytechnics to embrace the vocational aspect and open its doors to the informal.
