Nursing Mother, 12 Others Kidnapped from Bauchi Villages

Waylaying terrorists locally known as bandits have attacked two Bauchi villages kidnapping a nursing mother and 12 others in separate attacks.

Premium Times reported that the gunmen attacked Gumau and Burra in Ningi and Toro LGAs, Saturday night.

In Ningi they kidnapped a nursing mother Adama Abdulsalam, who is a businessman’s wife in Yadagungume, a town in Ningi.

Musa Adamu, a resident of Gumau, Toro LGA, said the recent resurgence of bandits in the area has become a concern to residents as the attacks led to killing and kidnapping where residents have to pay money before regaining their freedom.

According to him, the gunmen attacked their community and kidnapped one Babangida Danrimi and Saleh Jange, adding that the activities of bandits is crippling business activities in the area.

“Business activities in the communities had already been crippled by the fear of bandits,” he said.

Similarly, locals in villages sorrounding Burra Forest in Ningi told newsmen that the residents of the towns and villages around the nearby forest need urgent security intervention to curb the menace of bandits.

Manu Garba, a community leader in Ningi, said the banditry resurfaced in the areas few days after security agencies arrested some terror elements.

“Bandits have returned in different areas of Ningi local Government area and kidnapped six persons including a 20-year-old nursing mother and her baby.

“The bandits have reappeared again and are terrorising residents of Ningi 16 days after the security operatives from the state dealt with some of them.

“This time, they invaded and attacked three communities in the area within three days, abducting four persons in the process,” said Manu.

Another resident who craved anonymity said on Thursday night, gunmen attacked Sanga, a community in Kwangoro village, Ningi LGA, and abducted one person and later called to ask for ransom.

According to him, on the same night, gunmen also attacked Billiri Gorore Village in Lumbu and kidnapped two residents, Chibi Lumbu and Siba Lumbu.

The Caretaker Chairman of Ningi local government area, Ibrahim Zubairu, when contacted confirmed the incidents, describing it as terrible.

The chairman said on receiving the report, he immediately mobilised the security personnel to the affected communities for rescue.

“We are putting efforts towards arresting the insecurity issues bedevilling the peace and tranquillity of the area.

“We have recorded great success in the fight against insecurity; before the recent attacks, communities within the local government lived in harmony for 16 days without any report of kidnapping activities,” the chairman said.

WikkiTimes could not immediately reach Ahmed Wakili, spokesman for Bauchi Police Command for comments.

Several phone calls put through his line were not answered and a text message sent to him had not been responded to as of press time.
