One Dead, 64 Houses Razed in Bauchi Communal Clash

At least, one person has been confirmed dead as 65 houses were set on fire during a communal brawl between two clans in Sang village of Bogoro local government, Bauchi State.

Several others also sustained injuries as a result of the clash, says Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, spokesman for Bauchi Police Command.

Wakil said preliminary investigation showed that the communal clash emanated from the coronation of a Hamlet Head which some sections of the locals opposed.

“On 15/04/2023 at about 1900hrs, the Bauchi State Police Command received a distress call over ongoing skirmishes in the Bogoro area of the State.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the communal clash in Sang village of Bogoro LGA emanated from the coronation of the Hamlet Head of Sang. Some irate youth with different functions protested against the coronation,” the spokesman stated in a press release.

Wakil explained that the clash resulted in the death of a 70-year-old man identified as Apollos Danlami. According to him, 64 houses, three motorcycles and other properties worth millions of naira were razed.

“Consequently, this resulted in an attack on innocent citizens, as the irate youths set 64 houses, 3 motorcycles and Properties worth millions of Naira ablaze. One person by the name of Apollos Danlami 70 years was killed in the incident while a certain

Wakil said the command ha add d deployed operatives comprising Tactical teams, Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and Operation Restore Peace to the scene.

“The area is relatively peaceful for now, and security measures have been reinforced in and around Bogoro LGA as the safety of the citizens remains the highest priority of the Command while a work round-the-clock to keep harm at bay,” he stated.

However, Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan had directed Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bogoro Police Station to commence a discrete investigation in earnest to unravel the circumstances that led to the unrest.
