‘Open Defecation Breeds Killer Diseases,’ Bauchi WASH Warns Bogoro Residents

Mr Timothy Bitrus, Coordinator Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, WASH Bauchi Office, has warned the residents of Bogoro local government area of Bauchi State that continuous open defecation provides a fertile ground for killer disease to grow.

He said it is important for people to jettison the harmful act of open defecation to guarantee the safety of their health and that of members of the public.

The Coordinator said this when he paid a sensitisation visit to some identified traditional rulers in the area.

Mr. Bitrus explained that open defecation breeds killer diseases into homes and if people stop defecating in public, the risk of contracting diseases remains low.

While reminding them of the earlier declaration of Bogoro Local Government as Open Defecation Free, Mr. Timothy appealed to traditional rulers to continue enlightening their subjects on the need to constantly use toilets for the local government to sustain its status.

He equally charged people of the area to keep washing their hands with soap in order to ensure personal hygiene.
