Outgoing Kano Govt Backs Doguwa, Refutes Murder Case

The outgoing Kano State Government says the embattled Majority Leader, House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa could not be held responsible for electoral violence that claimed at least 15 people during February 25th presidential and parliamentary elections.

This came after a Federal High Court in Kano declared unconstitutional the charges of culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy pressed against the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker.

The State Attorney General, Barr. Musa A. Lawan,  who doubles as the Commissioner for Justice, Thursday said: “We are of the opinion that we cannot substantiate charges of criminal conspiracy, mischief by fire and culpable Homicide against Ado Doguwa.”

He added: “The statements of those that implicated were full of contradictions. And apart from their contradictory statements, we could not find medical evidence to prove that the death of the deceased persons was caused by Alhassan Ado Doguwa.

“Based on the foregoing facts and observations, we are of the opinion that we cannot substantiate charges of criminal conspiracy, mischief by fire and culpable homicide against the Doguwa.

“This is because we cannot find sufficient evidence to link with the said offences considering the fact that we are faced with so many inculpatory and exculpatory evidence for and against him. And the statements of those that implicated him were full of contradictions.”
