Palliatives: Bauchi Govt Procures N2bn Rice

In its efforts to reduce current economic difficulties following the removal of fuel subsidy, the Bauchi State Government has procured N2bn worth of rice for distribution to citizens of the state. 

WikkiTimes reports that the State Government confirmed receiving N2bn from the Federal Government out of the N5bn palliative approved for the 36 states of the federation including FCT.

A few weeks back, Governor Bala Mohammed set up a committee to procure and distribute the palliatives to the poor and vulnerable citizens of the state.

Hajara Yakubu Wanka, the State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management who is also the Secretary of the Bauchi State Palliatives Distribution Committee disclosed this to reporters during a press conference at the Press Gallery of the Government House Bauchi on Monday.

She said already, 88,988 bags of 25kg rice were procured at N22,500 per bag.

The Commissioners added that the committee also approved N800 million for the payment of owed gratuities to state and local government retirees in the state. 

She said N500 million will be used to pay gratuities of state retirees while N300 million will be used to settle local government retirees.

Wanka said another N680 has been sanctioned to upset civil servants owed leave grants for a period of twelve years.

The Commissioner said the move is to reduce the hardships faced by retirees in light of the current economic difficulties.
