Party Sues Bauchi Governor, Ex-Air Chief, Others Over Alleged Illegal Nomination

The People’s Redemption’s Party (PRP) has charged Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State and former Chief of Air Staff, Sadique Abubakar alongside others, to a Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged illegal nomination for the 2023 general elections.

The plaintiff, while claiming that the defendants have double nominations from their political parties, requested that the court bar them from taking part in the coming 2023 governorship election in the state.

According to reports, the request forms part of the reliefs being pursued in three separate suits filed by the PRP, through its lawyer, Chris Udeoyibo.

The PRP argues that Governor Bala is in violation of section 177(c) of the constitution as well as sections 84(13) and 115(d) of the Electoral Act 2022, having joined in as a candidate in the May 28, 2022 presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and later as the party’s sole governorship candidate in the primaries.

Although the suits were yet to be scheduled for hearing, but copies of the court writs were obtained by reporters in Abuja on Tuesday.
